Zijin Media Think Tank (ZMT) conducted a survey on comprehensive benefit of Yangzhou Jianzhen International Half Marathon, one of the earliest marathons in China, during Apr. 22 to 23, 2017.

According to the PPS (Probability-Proportional-to-Size) sampling method, research subjects were mainly divided into Yangzhou citizens, marathon runners, and spectators & tourists. More than 30 questions such as this marathon’s route setting, information services, and management were surveyed in three different questionnaires.

On April 22, the day before the Marathon, two research teams of over 70 students headed for Yangzhou to conduct questionnaire survey on local residents and marathon runners respectively. Based on PPS sampling method, 1000 Yangzhou citizens were selected from 30 communities in Hanjiang District, Guangling District and Jiangdu District. One team did the household survey on the selected citizens. The other focused on the competitors who had participated Yangzhou Jianzhen International Half Marathon. More than 500 runners accepted the questionnaire survey in Yangzhou International Exhibition Centre, where they got their marathon running package.

To learn about Yangzhou Jianzhen International Half Marathon’s international influence, 10 students from School of Foreign Studies carried out the survey among foreign runners and tourists.

To avoid the traffic control taken on all the running roads, three research teams of all together 60 students set off at 6 am on April 23th. They conducted survey on spectators, tourists and runners in several places, including the Start of Half Marathon, Slender West Lake, Daming Temple, Songjiacheng Sports Park and the Finish of Half Marathon.

After the two-day survey, we collected over 2500 questionnaires. In the coming days, ZMT’s Center for Public Opinion and Social Mentality, after thoroughly analyzing these first-hand data, will offer advice on how to attract more foreigners and boost Yangzhou’s development. As numerous cities are competing to hold marathons, ZMT will also help Yangzhou increase its marathon’s influence and maintain its marathon’s uniqueness. A comprehensive benefit evaluation report on Yangzhou Jianzhen International Half Marathon is expected to publish on June by ZMT.
